Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and the individual who runs SpareThyme (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using SpareThyme, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to use SpareThyme.
• Give accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us at support@sparethyme.app if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account Settings.

Free and Premium

The Free plan includes up to 75 saved recipes and a limited number of AI recipe imports and image generations. Premium costs $4.99 a month or $45 a year (plus any applicable tax) and unlocks the features listed on the Premium page, including a monthly allowance of imports and image generations. Unused monthly allowance doesn't carry over. Features and allowances may change; we'll tell you before a change that reduces what a paid plan includes takes effect.

Billing and renewal

• Premium renews automatically at the end of each month or year and is charged to your payment method until you cancel.
• Cancel anytime in Settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium until the end of the period you've already paid for, then your account moves to Free.
• No refunds. Payments aren't refundable, including for unused time or allowance, except where the law requires otherwise.
• Extra packs of imports or image generations are one-time purchases that expire 12 months after you buy them and aren't refundable.
• If we change Premium's price, we'll tell you before it applies to you, and the new price starts at your next renewal. You can cancel before then.
• If a payment fails, we may pause Premium features until it's paid. Payments are processed by Stripe under its own terms.
• Moving to Free may remove things Free doesn't include, such as past meal plans; the app tells you what will change before you switch.

Your content

You own the recipes, photos and other content you add. You give us permission to store, process and display it only as needed to run SpareThyme for you, including sending it to the AI services described in our Privacy Policy and delivering recipes you choose to share. Only add content you have the right to use. Recipes from websites and cookbooks may be protected by copyright; importing one is for your personal use.

Sharing recipes

When you send a recipe, the recipient receives their own copy, which they may keep. Don't send content that is unlawful, offensive or unwanted, and don't try to guess other people's share codes.

AI features

Imports and recipe images are produced by AI and can be wrong. Check ingredients, quantities, times and temperatures before cooking, and always check for allergens yourself. Generated images are illustrations and may not look like your dish.

Food safety

SpareThyme is a planning tool, not nutritional, medical or food safety advice. You're responsible for how you store, prepare and cook food. Don't rely on the cook timer alone for anything where timing matters for safety.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• break the law or anyone's rights using SpareThyme;
• interfere with the app, get around its limits or security, or access accounts or data that aren't yours;
• use automated tools to access the app in bulk, or resell it.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close a paid account without a breach on your part, we'll refund the unused part of your current period.

The service

We work to keep SpareThyme running, but it's provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We may change or discontinue features. If we shut SpareThyme down, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and refund the unused part of any paid period.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data or profits, and our total liability for any claim relating to SpareThyme is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Wisconsin, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use SpareThyme afterwards means you accept the updated terms.
